Reno 20 years ago

Reno Steba met Jaco Pastorius at the "Matinigue VI Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare", who taught him additional ropes and with whom he shared the stage. He had the pleasure to meet some interesting Jazz-musicians in Martinigue. Players like Jazz guitarist John Ambercombie, Classical guitarist Leo Brouwer, Ichiro Suzuki, Abel Calvero. That same year, Reno won the prestigious Motito y Rufo Wever musician of the year award on Aruba. A year later, he won the Motito y Rufo Wever arranger of the year award. His dreams for Europe brought him to The Netherlands. After settled in Rotterdam, he joined the group D.I. Formation. With this band he played with famous dutch artiest such as Lee Touwers, Corrie Konings, Oscar Harris, Lou Prins. Played with several Caribbean bands such as Willy Latino Showband, Caribbean Fantasy, Unisono, Siembra. Additionally, Reno has played with various Latin-jazz groups, such as Tribal Fusion, Bacan, Seduction, Ana Beck quartet and even with Europe famous "Batida". He performed with many Dutch jazz musicians, American players such as Cindy Blackman, Ray Appelton, Alex Acuna and the legendary Armando Peraza. Since 1992 he has been playing bass with the famous Multi Culture Trio Sticks & Strings and has been teaching bass guitar at the Amsterdam School of Music. In June of 1991 and 1993 he performed with his band Ropes for Tails at the Aruba Jazz & Latin Music Festival. Reno performed at concerts, festivals and clubs all over Europe. His most important projects at the moment are his band II Faces and soon to be heard F JAP III. Reno 2000 debut Cd " Secret Passage" (with II Faces) contains beautiful, memorable melodies and a good portion of jazz-fusion. Playing music that contains elements from Caribbean, South America and a perfect mixture with North-American Jazz and Funk.
